If you found this through Death, Sex & Money podcast, I’m so glad you found me here. Our show moved to Slate in 2024 and you can now find the full archives in your podcast feed. This newsletter is free, but I strongly encourage you to financially support the work of the Death, Sex & Money team and all my colleagues at Slate by joining Slate Plus. This will get you ad-free listening to Death, Sex & Money, among many other perks!

If you’ve never listened to our show but found this community some other way, let me introduce myself. I’m an interviewer and writer who, since 2014, has hosted the podcast Death, Sex & Money, a show about “the things we think about a lot and need to talk about more.” That includes death, sex and money — and more generally — about how we find connection, community, and laughs when the going gets tough. In 2021, I wrote a book called Let’s Talk About Hard Things.

Before we started the podcast, I was a politics reporter for years, so I’m also really interested in what we owe to one another, and how we thrash through our differences. That may be a particular focus in this newsletter given the precarious state of our democracy and the deep feelings of disconnection among many in the United States. And I also think a lot about place and how it shapes our identities. I grew up in West Virginia, and now with my two kids and wildlife ecologist husband, I’ve put down roots in Berkeley, California, and Cody, Wyoming. You can also find me on instagram here.
