One of the best movies would have to be 'The Pumpkin Eater' (1964) with a stellar performance by Anne Bancroft.

From the first few seconds of the song "Slip Away" by Clarence Carter, you'll be hooked. And thanks for your terrific show!

"But these stories keep me coming back because they are about the essential tensions in our moral lives, like obligation to our commitments versus freedom to pursue our individual desires, and how each of us might handle facing uncomfortable truths that could hurt others and/or make us look bad." YES YES YES.

Thank you for this topic, Anna! I loved "Leaving" and all of its glorious, beautiful, artful complications.

There are SO MANY good movies, books, songs on this topic. I don't know that that these do it "best" but these are some that do it interesting (I'm sure I'll think of more as soon as I hit "post"!):

The movie "Maggie's Plan"

The book "Vladimir" by Julia May Jonas

The songs "Untouchable Face" and "Gravel" by Ani DiFranco, "Newspaper" and "I Know" by Fiona Apple, "Good Woman" by Cat Power, "The Other Woman" by Loretta Lynn

I also came here to comment about "Vladimir" by Julia May Jonas! One of my favorite books that I've read in recent years.

"Big Swiss" by Jen Beagin is another good one.

I also find the depiction of the affair (rooted in the affair partner's point of view) in the TV show "Looking" to be really interesting.

The Weakness in Me by Joan Armatrading

Such a heartbreaking song, definitely humanized the person who is being unfaithful.
